Amethyst 10 Carat: the facts

What 10 carat looks like on the hand

Carat is weight, not width, so a 10-carat amethyst reads larger in a shallow cut than in a deep one. At this weight the stone suits a statement gents ring, which is the traditional setting for a stone of this size in Pakistan. If you think in ratti rather than carat, our ratti to carat guide converts it.

Why the price sits where it does

Depth and evenness of the purple (deep Siberian-style purple with red flashes is most valued), clarity, size and cut At PKR 2,000 per carat this piece is priced for everyday wear rather than collection quality, which is what most buyers want in this size. Compare it against the current market in our gemstone price guide for Pakistan.

Who wears it

Saturn; worn as a gentler substitute for blue sapphire It is traditionally worn on the middle finger in silver, or a pendant, traditionally on a Saturday These attributions come from tradition rather than tested effect, and we sell the stone for what it verifiably is: a natural amethyst of 10 carat.

Care

Amethyst is durable; clean with warm soapy water. Keep it out of strong sunlight for long periods as the colour can fade.
