White Coral No. 11: the facts

Why this stone is listed on its own

Each stone in this collection is listed on its own because no two are identical — colour, surface and polish differ from piece to piece, so the one in the photograph is the one that ships.

What decides the price

Colour (evenly saturated red is most valued), surface smoothness with no pits or cracks, size and whether it is natural, dyed or reconstituted Current market rates for every stone we carry are in our gemstone price guide, and the rest of this collection is at White Coral (Marjan).

Checking the stone before you pay

Hold it against a white background in daylight to judge colour honestly, look through a 10x loupe for growth features and small natural inclusions (glass shows round bubbles and swirl lines instead), and ask for the weight on a scale in front of you. For anything expensive, a report from an independent gemmological laboratory is the only way to be certain of the species and any treatment.

Who wears it

The Moon and Venus in tradition. It is traditionally worn on the ring finger of the right hand, set in gold or copper, first worn on a Tuesday morning These are traditions rather than tested effects; what we stand behind is the stone itself.

Care

Coral is soft and reacts to acids — keep it away from perfume, sweat and cleaning products, and wipe with a soft damp cloth. Store it separately.
