Checking the stone before you pay

Hold it against a white background in daylight to judge colour honestly, look through a 10x loupe for growth features and small natural inclusions (glass shows round bubbles and swirl lines instead), and ask for the weight on a scale in front of you. For anything expensive, a report from an independent gemmological laboratory is the only way to be certain of the species and any treatment.

Who wears it

Associated with Mercury and Venus. It is traditionally worn on a bangle, pendant or ring; nephrite is tough enough for daily wear These are traditions rather than tested effects; what we stand behind is the stone itself.

Care

Jade is very tough; clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals on dyed or polymer-treated pieces.
