Checking the stone before you pay

Hold it against a white background in daylight to judge colour honestly, look through a 10x loupe for growth features and small natural inclusions (glass shows round bubbles and swirl lines instead), and ask for the weight on a scale in front of you. For anything expensive, a report from an independent gemmological laboratory is the only way to be certain of the species and any treatment.

Venus (Shukra). It is traditionally worn on the index or ring finger of the right hand, set in silver or white gold, first worn on a Friday These are traditions rather than tested effects; what we stand behind is the stone itself.

Care

Opal contains water and can crack with sudden heat or dryness; keep it away from heat, avoid ultrasonic cleaners and store it with a little humidity.
