Gemstones in Rawalpindi: Buy, Then Verify

Rawalpindi has bought and sold gemstones for generations, and Pindi buyers tend to be sharp about it. Many of them ask us the same question first: how do I know the stone is real? This page answers it. How to have a stone verified

A gem-testing laboratory can identify what a stone actually is: its species, whether it is natural or synthetic, and whether it has been treated. Here is a sensible way to use one:

1. Receive and inspect. When the courier arrives, open the parcel and look at the stone before paying. If it clearly isn't what you ordered, you can refuse it.
2. Keep it unused. Don't set it or wear it yet. Returns are only accepted for stones that are unused and in their original condition and packaging.
3. Take it to an independent lab you trust in the twin cities, or ask us to arrange independent testing for you.
4. Read the report. A proper report names the species (for example "natural corundum"), states whether it is natural, and notes any detectable treatment such as heating.
5. Decide within 7 days of delivery. Keep it, or return it for a refund or an exchange under our return policy.

What the Urdu trade names mean

In Raja Bazaar and elsewhere, stones are mostly sold by their Urdu names. Knowing the English names helps when you read a lab report:

Bargaining in the bazaar

Prices in Rawalpindi's bazaars are open to negotiation, which can make the asking price feel like the main question. It isn't. A good discount on a dyed stone is still a bad buy. Ask for three things in writing before you haggle: the carat weight, whether the stone is natural, and any treatment. Then work out the per-carat rate. Be especially careful with origin names: "Kashmir neelam" or "Burma yaqoot" without a laboratory report is sales talk.

Prescribed stones

A large share of Pindi orders are stones recommended by an astrologer: neelam for Saturn, pukhraj for Jupiter, yaqoot for the Sun, moti for the Moon. Delivery and payment in Rawalpindi

Orders are dispatched from Lahore within 1-2 working days and delivered by insured, tracked courier within about 7 working days, to Saddar, Satellite Town, Bahria Town, Chaklala or anywhere else in the city.
