Traditional belief vs gemmology: anything on this page about luck, protection, planets, healing or religious tradition describes traditional and cultural beliefs — not proven effects, religious rulings or medical advice. A stone's identity, hardness, treatment and origin are gemmology, which a lab can test; the references at the end of the page cover that side.

The list most jewellers use was standardised in 1912 and has been revised a few times since. The traditional April stone is diamond. We do not sell diamonds, so for April we suggest natural white sapphire or white topaz, both hard and colourless. For the history behind the list, read Birthstones explained. Birthstones and rashi stones are two different lists

A birthstone follows the calendar month you were born in. A rashi stone comes from Vedic astrology and is chosen from your zodiac sign and its ruling planet, so the two can differ for the same person. Someone born in July has ruby as a birthstone, yet a rashi reading may point to a different gem. Many families in Pakistan use both: the month stone as a personal or gift stone, and the rashi stone when astrology is the reason for wearing one. Our zodiac gemstones guide covers the rashi side.

Birthstones as gifts in Pakistan

  • Birthdays. A loose birthstone is a personal gift that the family jeweller can later set into a ring, pendant or earrings in gold or silver.
  • Eid. A small birthstone given with Eidi lasts far longer than the cash. Order with time to spare: we dispatch in 1–2 working days and delivery takes about 7 working days.
  • Weddings. Couples sometimes choose each other's birthstones, or the stone of the wedding month, for a mooh dikhai gift or a nikah ring.
  • Children. Some families keep a birthstone for a newborn to be set when the child is older.

Common questions

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly — we answer on WhatsApp during working hours.

What is my birthstone?

Your birthstone is set by your birth month: garnet for January, amethyst for February, aquamarine for March and so on through to Feroza or tanzanite for December. Choose your month above for the full guide.

Is a birthstone the same as a rashi stone?

No. A birthstone follows your birth month, while a rashi stone follows your zodiac sign and ruling planet in Vedic astrology, so the two can differ.

What is the April birthstone if you do not sell diamonds?

We suggest natural white sapphire or white topaz for April. Both are colourless and hard enough for everyday rings.

Can I give a birthstone as a wedding or Eid gift?

Yes. A loose birthstone is easy to give in a small box and can be set later by the family jeweller.

Can I check the stone before paying?

Yes. With Cash on Delivery you can open the parcel and inspect the stone before paying the rider, and returns are accepted within 7 days.
