Natural Tiger Eye Stone in Pakistan
Tiger eye, known in Urdu as Chashm-e-Babri, is a golden-brown quartz with a silky band of light that rolls across the stone as you move it, like the eye of a big cat. Each tiger eye on this page is a single natural stone, photographed as it is and priced individually.

Why the light moves
Tiger eye formed when quartz replaced fibrous minerals inside the rock while keeping their parallel fibre structure. Light reflecting off those fibres creates the moving band, an effect called chatoyancy. To show it at its best, stones are cut as smooth domed cabochons or polished flat with the fibres running parallel to the surface.
Golden, red and blue varieties
- Golden tiger eye - the classic honey-gold and brown banding, by far the most popular.
- Red tiger eye - a deep reddish-brown, usually produced by gently heating golden material. We disclose heating when known.
- Hawk's eye (blue tiger eye) - a blue-grey to blue-green version, where the original fibres were not fully altered.
South Africa is the most famous source of fine tiger eye, and it is also found in other countries.
What makes a good tiger eye
The best stones show bright, silky, sharply defined bands with strong contrast that "flip" from light to dark as you turn them. Rich golden colour, even banding across the face, a high polish and a well-shaped cabochon add value. Larger stones cost more, but tiger eye remains one of the most budget-friendly gems, making it a good choice for a first ring. Each listing's per-carat rate is price divided by carat weight.
Natural or imitation?
Real tiger eye's bands of light glide across the surface as you tilt it. Imitations, such as glass with painted or printed stripes, look flat and the stripes do not move. Fibre-optic glass, sold as "cat's eye", can show a moving line but often has a honeycomb pattern visible from the side. We inspect every stone, and a certificate of authenticity is available on request. If you are looking for chrysoberyl cat's eye instead, see our Lehsunia collection.
Tradition and belief
Tiger eye is traditionally regarded as a stone of courage, focus and protection, said to help the wearer feel grounded and confident. In some South Asian astrological traditions it is linked with the Sun. These are beliefs rather than guaranteed outcomes, and many people wear it simply for its warm, shifting glow.
Caring for your tiger eye
Tiger eye rates about 7 on the Mohs scale and is tough enough for everyday rings. Clean it with mild soap and water and store it away from harder gems.
