How colour affects value
Within any one stone, colour usually matters more than anything else. Buyers pay most for a stone whose hue is pure, whose tone is neither too pale nor too dark, and whose saturation is strong and even across the face. A Neelam with a clean mid-blue is worth more than an inky or greyish one of the same size, and the same logic holds for Yaqoot and Zamurd. Clarity, size, cut, origin and treatment then adjust the price.
Same colour, different stone
Stones of one colour can differ greatly in hardness and value. A blue sapphire and a blue topaz may look alike in a photo, yet they are different minerals. Each colour page lists hardness and common treatments so you know what you are buying. Every stone we sell is natural, and known treatments are disclosed.
