Zodiac Gemstones: Your Rashi Stone by Sign and Planet برج کے پتھر

In short: In Pakistani tradition, your rashi stone is the gem of the planet ruling your sign: red coral for Aries and Scorpio, emerald for Gemini and Virgo, pearl for Cancer, ruby for Leo, Pukhraj for Sagittarius and Pisces, and Neelam for Capricorn and Aquarius. For Taurus and Libra we suggest opal or white sapphire.

In Pakistani tradition a zodiac or rashi stone is the gem of the planet that rules your sign: red coral for Aries and Scorpio, emerald for Gemini and Virgo, pearl for Cancer, ruby for Leo, Pukhraj for Sagittarius and Pisces, Neelam for Capricorn and Aquarius, and the Venus stones for Taurus and Libra. Traditional belief vs gemmology: anything on this page about luck, protection, planets, healing or religious tradition describes traditional and cultural beliefs — not proven effects, religious rulings or medical advice. A stone's identity, hardness, treatment and origin are gemmology, which a lab can test; the references at the end of the page cover that side.

Rashi stones and birthstones are different systems

Two traditions are mixed up in Pakistan. Vedic astrology (jyotish) links each rashi to a ruling planet and each planet to a gem: Neelam for Saturn, Pukhraj for Jupiter, Yaqoot for the Sun and so on. Your rashi is your moon sign, worked out from your date, time and place of birth. Western birthstones go by the month you were born, so a person born in July is given ruby whatever their chart says. Our birthstones pages cover the month system. This section follows the Vedic one, which is what most families here mean when they ask for a stone "for my star".

How the 12 signs map to stones

Seven planets rule the twelve signs, so several signs share a stone. The dates shown on each sign page are Western sun-sign dates for reference.

The pairs are easy to remember: Mars gives red coral to Aries and Scorpio; Venus gives the diamond stones to Taurus and Libra; Mercury gives emerald to Gemini and Virgo; Jupiter gives yellow sapphire to Sagittarius and Pisces; Saturn gives blue sapphire to Capricorn and Aquarius. Cancer has pearl for the Moon and Leo has ruby for the Sun. We do not sell diamonds, so for the Venus signs we suggest opal, white sapphire or white topaz.

How to choose: by sign or by planet

By sign

The simple rule is to wear the stone of your rashi's ruling planet. Open your sign's page for its primary stone, its substitute, how it is worn and what to check before buying.

By ruling planet

Experienced astrologers usually go further and choose from the whole birth chart: the ascendant (lagna), the current dasha, and which planets are weak or strong. This can point to a stone for a planet that does not rule your sign at all, including Rahu and Ketu. Our nine planetary stones page lists the gem for each planet. The full background is in our blog post gemstones by rashi.

Strong stones and gentle stones

Tradition treats Neelam, Yaqoot, Pukhraj, Marjan, Gomed and Lehsunia as strong stones that are normally worn after a reading. Pearl, moonstone, amethyst, Aqeeq and citrine are often considered gentle enough to wear freely. Substitutes are cheaper and milder, which is why many people start with them.

What we do and do not do

GemStore does not read charts or make astrological promises. We sell natural stones, each photographed and priced on its own, with known treatments disclosed. Send us your astrologer's recommendation, or your date of birth for a sign-based suggestion, and we will show you stones in the weight you need. You can open the parcel and inspect the stone before paying the rider, and our 7-day return policy gives time for the customary trial. To check a stone, read how we check every gemstone.

Common questions

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly — we answer on WhatsApp during working hours.

What is a rashi stone?

It is the gem of the planet that rules your Vedic moon sign. Each of the seven classical planets has one primary gem.

Is my rashi the same as my star sign in the newspaper?

Often not. Newspaper signs use your sun sign, while your rashi is your moon sign, worked out from your date, time and place of birth.

Are zodiac stones the same as birthstones?

No. Birthstones go by your birth month, while rashi stones go by your sign's ruling planet. They sometimes match by chance.

Do I need an astrologer to choose a stone?

For strong stones like Neelam, Pukhraj and Yaqoot, tradition advises a reading. Gentle stones and substitutes are often worn without one.

Can you suggest a stone from my date of birth?

Yes, send it on WhatsApp and we will suggest the traditional stone for your sign. We do not read full charts.

Want a closer look before you order?

Ask for extra photos, a video in daylight or the exact measurements of any stone — we reply on WhatsApp during working hours.
