This tourmaline is priced at Rs. 4,950. Beyond that, the family traits tell you most of what to expect.

Tourmaline is one of the most colour-varied gems there is, and no two stones look alike, so the photographs on the page matter more than any description. Hardness is 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, comfortable for ring wear, though it can chip along an edge if struck hard.

Treatment is the point to raise, because heat or irradiation is sometimes used on tourmaline to change or deepen colour. Message us on WhatsApp at +92 308 887 3888 with reference GS-00020 and we will share what we know about this stone; for an independent opinion, lab testing can be arranged.

If you plan a ring, remember that tourmaline picks up dust and light scratches with wear, so a soft cloth and an occasional wash keep it bright.

Ask us for the weight and dimensions as well, and we can reply with details and extra pictures. The wider range is listed under tourmaline, and our tourmaline guide explains the colours and the traditions around them.

Whoever you buy tourmaline from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every tourmaline for those three points before it is listed, a certificate is available on request, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.
