What the service covers
- Setting a loose stone bought from GemStore in a 925 sterling silver ring.
- A ring made to the size you send, for men or women.
- A choice of setting style suited to the stone's hardness and shape.
- Delivery by insured tracked courier anywhere in Pakistan, paid in cash on delivery after you inspect the ring.
We work in silver. If you want gold, you can buy the loose stone from us and take it to your own jeweller.
Setting styles, and which stones they suit
Bezel
A rim of silver wraps right around the stone's edge. It is the most protective style and the usual choice for men's rings, cabochons and softer stones such as Feroza, opal, lapis, coral and pearl.
Claw (prong)
Four or six claws hold the stone and leave most of it open to light, which brightens faceted stones. Best for hard gems such as Neelam, Yaqoot, Pukhraj, topaz and aquamarine.
Half bezel
Silver covers two sides of the stone and leaves the others open. A middle path between protection and light.
Open back or closed back
An open back lets light in from behind and lets the stone touch the skin, which many families prefer for astrological stones such as Neelam and Pukhraj. A closed back protects a soft or porous stone and suits opaque gems.
What affects the price of setting
- The stone you choose. This is a separate price, shown on each listing. Our monthly price guide gives ranges by gemstone.
- Silver weight. Silver is priced by weight and follows the market. A heavy men's band uses more than a slim ladies' ring.
- Design. A plain bezel or four-claw ring is simplest. Patterned shoulders, double bands or decorative heads add labour.
- Handmade or cast. A cast ring is made from a mould: quicker and usually cheaper. A handmade ring is built around your stone by a karigar and suits large, deep or irregular stones.
- Stone size and shape. Very large, very small or unusually shaped stones need more careful work.
Why a setting needs care
Most lost stones are lost because of a poor setting, not a poor stone. Claws that are too thin wear through, a bezel that is not pressed down evenly lets the stone rock, and a stone forced into a cup that is too small can chip at the girdle. A setter has to match the cup to the stone's exact shape and depth, which is why we agree the setting for the particular stone you choose before any work starts, whether the ring is cast or handmade.
Traditional finger and metal
Many customers follow a tradition when choosing where to wear a ring. In Vedic astrology Pukhraj goes on the index finger, Neelam on the middle finger, Yaqoot on the ring finger and Zamurd on the little finger, as explained on our planetary stones page. In Muslim tradition many men wear aqeeq, Feroza or Dur-e-Najaf in silver on the right hand; see Islamic gemstones. These are traditions, and for religious questions ask a scholar you trust. Tell us the finger and we will size and style the ring to suit.
How ordering works
- Pick a stone from any category on our site, or ask us on WhatsApp to suggest stones for your purpose and budget.
- Measure your finger with our ring size guide or at home, and send the size with the stone link.
- Tell us the style: bezel or claw, men's or ladies', plain or patterned. A photo of a ring you like helps.
- We confirm on WhatsApp the design, the full price and the time needed. We start only after you agree.
- We set, check and dispatch the ring by insured tracked courier, about 7 working days to reach you.
- You open the parcel and inspect before paying the rider in cash.
Looking after a set stone
Check the claws or bezel every few months; a bent claw is the most common reason stones are lost. Remove the ring for heavy work, sport and swimming. Clean hard stones with mild soapy water and a soft brush, and wipe soft or porous stones with a dry cloth only. Polish the silver with a silver cloth. Our gemstone care guide lists what each stone can take, and silver vs gold settings compares the metals.
