Green Gemstones سبز
In short: Our natural green gemstones are Zamurd (emerald), Zabarjad (peridot), jade, nephrite, malachite, bloodstone, green agate and moss agate. Emerald and peridot are transparent and faceted, while the rest are mostly opaque or translucent and cut as cabochons or beads. Emerald is usually oiled or resin-filled, and very even, bright green agate usually means dye.

The green stones and how they differ
| Stone | Hardness (Mohs) | Look | Typical treatment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zamurd | 7.5–8 | Rich green with visible inclusions (jardin) | Usually oiled or resin-filled |
| Zabarjad | 6.5–7 | Olive to lime green, oily glow | Rarely treated |
| Jade and nephrite | 6–7 | Waxy, smooth, very tough | Jade may be dyed or bleached |
| Malachite | 3.5–4 | Opaque with light and dark green bands | Often stabilised |
| Bloodstone | 6.5–7 | Dark green with red spots | Usually untreated |
| Green agate and moss agate | 6.5–7 | Even green, or clear with green moss-like patterns | Green agate is often dyed |
What to check
- Emerald: some inclusions are normal. A flawless, cheap green stone deserves suspicion.
- Peridot: look for a clean, lively green; Pakistan's Kohistan stones are well known.
- Malachite: soft, so keep it away from water, acids and hard knocks.
- Green agate: very even, bright green usually means dye. We disclose it.

What drives value in green stones
Emerald is valued on the depth and evenness of its green first and clarity second, so a well-coloured stone with some inclusions can outrank a paler clean one. For peridot, a clean, saturated green without brown counts most. Jade and nephrite are valued for even colour and translucency, malachite for crisp bands.
