Why feroza is cut as a cabochon

Turquoise is opaque, so a faceted cut would throw away weight without adding any sparkle. A domed cabochon shows the colour across a broad, uninterrupted face and protects the stone in a ring setting, which is why almost all feroza is cut this way. The light veining on this piece is natural matrix from the host rock — it is a sign the stone has not been reconstituted from powder.

What decides the price of feroza

Evenness of blue comes first: a clean sky blue with little or no green cast is the most expensive, and heavily veined or stabilised material costs far less. Who wears it

Feroza is worn across Pakistan in silver rings, traditionally on the index or little finger, and is associated with Sagittarius. These attributions come from tradition rather than tested effect; what we guarantee is that the stone is natural turquoise.

Care

Turquoise is porous and soft at 5–6 on the Mohs scale. Keep it away from perfume, hairspray, soap and prolonged water, never put it in an ultrasonic cleaner, and wipe it with a dry or barely damp cloth. Stored carelessly against harder stones it will scratch.
