What the lab checks on opal
- Doublets and triplets: a thin layer of opal glued to a dark backing, sometimes with a clear cap. The lab checks the side profile and joins.
- Synthetic and imitation opal: lab-grown opal shows a regular columnar pattern; plastic and glass imitations are separated by density and refractive index.
- Smoke and sugar treatment: used to darken pale opal, especially Ethiopian material.
- Impregnation and dye: resin or polymer added to stabilise or colour porous opal.
How to request a report
Pick any stone from our opal collection and send its link on WhatsApp +92 308 887 3888. We explain the testing steps for that stone, and you see the report before you pay. The same applies to Ethiopian opal, Australian opal and moonstone. Read more on lab-certified gemstones.
