The yellow stones and how they differ
| Stone | Hardness (Mohs) | Look | Typical treatment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pukhraj | 9 | Lemon to canary yellow, strong sparkle | Heating common |
| Sunehla | 7 | Pale yellow to golden orange | Often heat-treated amethyst |
| Yellow agate | 6.5–7 | Translucent, soft glow, waxy shine | Often dyed |
| Amber | 2–2.5 | Warm honey colour, very light, feels warm | Sometimes heated or pressed |
How to tell Pukhraj from citrine
Pukhraj is much harder and sparkles more brightly, and it feels heavier for its size. Citrine is softer and lighter in weight. Some sellers call citrine "Sunehri Pukhraj"; it is a different stone and should be priced as one.
What to check
- Pukhraj: ask whether it is heated. Some astrologers prefer unheated stones.
- Citrine: a reddish-orange tone often shows heated amethyst. That is common and we disclose it.
- Amber: plastic and copal are common imitations; see amber or copal.

What drives value in yellow stones
For Pukhraj, a clean, bright canary yellow without brown or green tints is worth most, and unheated stones carry a premium. Citrine is valued for a rich golden colour and clean clarity. Yellow agate is valued for an even, natural glow, and amber for clarity and any natural inclusions inside.
