Description

Ruby or garnet? At around seven carats and a warm red, this question comes up often, and there are fair ways to answer it. A true ruby glows under a UV torch while garnet stays dull, and a clean ruby this size would cost far more than this stone. Be wary of anyone who offers a large, clean "ruby" at garnet prices. Our listings state the species plainly, and we will put it on the invoice.

The stone here is a 6.75 carat garnet in warm red, priced at Rs. 8,030, which is about Rs. 1,190 per carat. In Pakistani trade it would be thought of beside the red family of stones, but it carries its own character: a slightly softer, darker glow than ruby, with excellent hardness for wear at 7 to 7.5.

For a ring, a silver setting works well, and we are happy to talk through a custom silver ring setting on WhatsApp. Give us the SKU, GSN-GT-08, and we can answer questions on this one. Browse the garnet gemstones or read about ruby quality to see the difference for yourself.

Cash on Delivery is available across Pakistan, so you inspect the stone before paying, and returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery.

This particular stone

This listing is one natural garnet with a weight of 6.75 Carat. Its price is Rs. 8,030 — roughly Rs. 1,190 for each carat. Origin: Pakistan. Treatment: treatment not tested. Quote reference GSN-GT-08 when you message us about it. The photographs show this exact stone, so what arrives at your door is the piece you chose on screen.

From six carats up a stone becomes the centre of attention. It wants a broader shank or a secure claw setting and suits an occasion ring, a signet or a centre pendant. Clean natural material of this size turns up far less often, and the per-carat rate reflects that.

On the Mohs scale garnet rates 7 to 7.5. It handles daily wear, but a hard knock can still nick an exposed corner, so a protective setting is a sensible choice. Clean it with warm soapy water and a soft brush, and keep it away from abrasive cleaners and high heat.

Whoever you buy garnet from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every garnet for those three points before it is listed, a certificate is available on request, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.

Questions about this stone

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly — we answer on WhatsApp during working hours.

Is this garnet natural and untreated?

Yes. Garnet is one of the few gemstones that is not routinely treated — it is not heated like sapphire and ruby, not oiled like emerald, and not dyed or filled. This stone is natural and untreated, and we will state that on the invoice.

Can a 6.75 carat garnet be worn in a ring?

Yes, easily. At this weight it sets into a normal shank and, at 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, garnet handles daily wear better than most coloured stones.

How do I know it is garnet and not ruby or glass?

Ruby fluoresces under a UV torch and garnet does not, which separates the two in seconds. Glass gives itself away by warmth to the touch, rounded facet edges and trapped round bubbles. Every stone we list is hand-inspected, and with Cash on Delivery you can have it checked at a local laboratory before you pay.

What is garnet worn for in South Asian tradition?

Garnet is linked to Rahu and is traditionally worn for clarity of purpose and protection from confusion, and it is often chosen as an affordable alternative to hessonite (gomed). These are traditional beliefs rather than guaranteed outcomes — if you are buying for astrological reasons, agree the stone, weight and finger with an experienced astrologer first.
