Description
Fourteen and a quarter carats is a lot of kunzite, and the first thing a buyer should ask is whether it will actually be worn. This is a stone with a light lemon-yellow colour and a clean body, and it is happiest as a pendant or a display piece.
Where the numbers land
At Rs. 16,050 the per-carat figure is about Rs. 1,126, a touch lower than our 11.5 carat yellow kunzite, which is the usual pattern: larger stones of the same family tend to ease slightly per carat. Kunzite is rated 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale. It is not soft, yet it has directions in which it parts cleanly, so size and exposure are the real risks, not everyday scratching.
Setting advice
A pendant keeps it clear of door frames and tabletops. If you want a ring, ask the jeweller for a protective setting around the edges and plan to wear it for occasions rather than for work. Kunzite can be irradiated or heated in the trade, and its colour may fade over years of strong sunlight, so avoid leaving it on a sunny sill. This particular stone
This listing is one natural kunzite with a weight of 14.25 Carat. Its price is Rs. 16,050 — roughly Rs. 1,126 for each carat. Treatment: treatment not tested. Quote reference GSN-KZ-11 when you message us about it. The photographs show this exact stone, so what arrives at your door is the piece you chose on screen.
Above twelve carats you are into collector territory. Pieces this heavy are usually set as pendants or kept loose, and they are prized for the size of rough they came from. If you do set it, choose a bezel or a heavy claw to protect the edges.
On the Mohs scale kunzite rates 6.5 to 7. That is middle-of-the-road hardness: comfortable in pendants and earrings, and in rings worn with some care. Store it apart from harder stones so it does not pick up scratches, and wipe it with a damp cloth rather than scrubbing.
Whoever you buy kunzite from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every kunzite for those three points before it is listed, a certificate is available on request, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.
