Kunzite is a gem that makes people ask questions, so we have set out the ones we hear most for this 3.5 carat stone, reference GSN-KZ-01. It costs Rs. 3,980, which is about Rs. 1,137 per carat.

What colour is it?

A light, even rose pink, with the colour sitting deepest towards the corners of the stone.

Is it durable?

Kunzite rates 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, but it has perfect cleavage, so a hard knock can split it. Choose a protective setting, and a pendant or earring suits it better than a ring worn daily.

Will the colour fade?

It can, after long exposure to strong sunlight. Wear it in the evening and keep it out of a sunny window.

Has it been treated?

Kunzite is sometimes irradiated or heated to deepen the pink. Ask us on WhatsApp and we will share what we know of this stone.

Clean it with warm soapy water, never an ultrasonic. The full kunzite range is worth a look.

Cash on Delivery is available across Pakistan, so you inspect the stone before paying, and returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery. Before you choose, read our kunzite guide.

Between two and six carats is the range most people choose for a gents' ring or a noticeable pendant. Here colour drives the price more than size does, which is why two stones of near-identical weight can be priced very differently.

On the Mohs scale kunzite rates 6.5 to 7. That is middle-of-the-road hardness: comfortable in pendants and earrings, and in rings worn with some care. Store it apart from harder stones so it does not pick up scratches, and wipe it with a damp cloth rather than scrubbing.

Whoever you buy kunzite from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every kunzite for those three points before it is listed, a certificate is available on request, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.
