Description

Some kunzite is so pale that, at first glance, it looks nearly colourless. This 4.55 carat stone is like that: a faint warm blush gathers under the top when you look straight down, and otherwise it keeps a quiet, clear look. It is reference GSN-KZ-04 and costs Rs. 5,180, about Rs. 1,138 per carat.

Pale kunzite can be mistaken for other colourless stones in a photograph. A white topaz or a clear quartz can look similar on screen. In the hand they separate easily, since kunzite is lighter for its size and has a softer, glassy lustre. If you are weighing one against the other, our page on white topaz may help.

Kunzite rates 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale and has perfect cleavage, so choose a setting that protects it from direct knocks. Sunlight over years can dull the colour, and some kunzite is irradiated or heated, so ask us on WhatsApp what we know of this stone before ordering.

Clean with warm water and a soft cloth. More pieces are in the kunzite range.

Cash on Delivery is available across Pakistan, so you inspect the stone before paying, and returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery. Before you choose, read our kunzite guide.

This particular stone

This listing is one natural kunzite with a weight of 4.55 Carat. Its price is Rs. 5,180 — roughly Rs. 1,138 for each carat. Treatment: treatment not tested. Quote reference GSN-KZ-04 when you message us about it. The photographs show this exact stone, so what arrives at your door is the piece you chose on screen.

Between two and six carats is the range most people choose for a gents' ring or a noticeable pendant. Here colour drives the price more than size does, which is why two stones of near-identical weight can be priced very differently.

On the Mohs scale kunzite rates 6.5 to 7. That is middle-of-the-road hardness: comfortable in pendants and earrings, and in rings worn with some care. Store it apart from harder stones so it does not pick up scratches, and wipe it with a damp cloth rather than scrubbing.

Whoever you buy kunzite from, make sure of three things: the stone is natural rather than lab-grown, glass or glass-filled; any treatment is stated in writing; and the weight quoted is the weight of the finished stone. We check every kunzite for those three points before it is listed, a certificate is available on request, and because you pay on delivery you can look at the stone — or have it tested — before any money changes hands.

Questions about this stone

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly — we answer on WhatsApp during working hours.

Is this kunzite natural?

Yes. It is natural kunzite (spodumene), not a lab-grown or glass stone. Kunzite is commonly colour-enhanced in the trade and we do not hold a treatment report on this particular stone, so we state what we know rather than claiming it is untreated. Message us and we will arrange independent testing if you want it confirmed before you buy.

Can this 4.55 carat stone be worn in a ring?

Yes, comfortably. At this weight it sets into a normal ring shank without looking oversized. Ask for a bezel or a protected setting rather than open claws, because kunzite splits along its cleavage more easily than its hardness suggests.

Will the colour fade?

Kunzite can pale after years of prolonged direct sunlight. This is well documented for the mineral and is why it is sometimes called an evening stone. Normal indoor wear and daylight will not affect it; store it in its pouch away from a sunlit window and it will keep its colour indefinitely.

How should I clean it?

Warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft cloth or very soft brush. Never use an ultrasonic or steam cleaner on kunzite, and keep it away from perfume, hairspray and household chemicals. Put jewellery on after cosmetics, not before.
