April Birthstone: White Sapphire and White Topaz اپریل
In short: April's traditional birthstone is diamond, but as we do not sell diamonds we suggest two natural colourless alternatives. White sapphire, at 9 on the Mohs scale, is the hardest gem after diamond, while white topaz is softer at 8 but bright, clean and easier on the budget. Both give the clear, white look April is known for.

Traditional belief vs gemmology: anything on this page about luck, protection, planets, healing or religious tradition describes traditional and cultural beliefs — not proven effects, religious rulings or medical advice. A stone's identity, hardness, treatment and origin are gemmology, which a lab can test; the references at the end of the page cover that side.
Meaning and history
Diamond has long stood for strength and lasting love, and colourless stones in general carry the same idea of purity. In Pakistan, white sapphire is sometimes called safed Pukhraj, and in Vedic practice it is traditionally worn as a substitute for diamond. White topaz has no such tradition but gives a similar bright, icy look. If you specifically want a diamond, a diamond specialist is the right place to go. White sapphire or white topaz?
| White sapphire | White topaz | |
|---|---|---|
| Mohs hardness | 9 | 8 |
| Everyday ring wear | Very well suited | Suitable with care; can split on a hard knock |
| Look | Bright, slightly softer sparkle | Bright, glassy sparkle |
With either stone, look for a truly colourless body: a faint yellow, brown or grey tint lowers value. Colourless gems show every flaw, so choose a stone that is clean to the eye and well cut, with no dull patch in the centre. Browse white topaz, ask us about white sapphire within our sapphire range, or consider Dur-e-Najaf, a clear quartz with its own tradition.
Real or fake: what to check
- Glass shows round bubbles under a loupe and wears quickly at the facet edges.
- Cubic zirconia is heavy for its size and throws strong rainbow flashes, more fiery than sapphire or topaz.
- Synthetic sapphire exists and can look flawless. We sell natural stones only, and a certificate is available on request.
Care
Colourless stones lose their sparkle quickly under skin oil and soap film, so clean them often in lukewarm soapy water with a soft brush. White topaz has a cleavage plane, so avoid hard knocks and ultrasonic cleaners. Read keeping white topaz bright.
An April gift
A white stone suits the white and ivory outfits often worn at a nikah, and a white sapphire or white topaz ring is a natural choice for an engagement or a mooh dikhai gift. For an April birthday or Eid, a single clear stone can be set by the family jeweller in gold or silver.
Every stone we sell is natural, never synthetic or lab-created. You can pay Cash on Delivery anywhere in Pakistan, open the parcel to inspect the stone before paying the rider, and return it within 7 days. Read how we check every stone.
