What shapes the cost of zard aqeeq

Yellow Agate Pricing: Natural Colour, Glow and Finish

In short: Yellow agate (zard aqeeq) prices depend mostly on whether the colour is natural, how much the stone glows and how well it is finished. Natural stones are a soft honey, lemon or golden tone, while bright, uniform, almost neon yellow is usually dyed. Translucency, even colour, a glassy polish and clean edges all add value.

Yellow agate, sold as zard aqeeq, is one of the more affordable aqeeq stones, but prices still vary from stone to stone. Most of that difference comes from whether the colour is natural, how much the stone glows and how well it has been finished. Here is what to look for.

Natural or dyed colour

This is the biggest single factor. Natural yellow agate tends to be a soft honey, lemon or golden tone, often with gentle variation and faint banding. Very bright, uniform, almost neon yellow is usually dyed. Dyed agate is common and not necessarily a problem, but it should be cheaper and disclosed as such. Under a loupe, dye tends to collect along cracks and the edges of bands.

Translucency and glow

Hold the stone up to the light. Good yellow agate is translucent and glows warmly from inside. Flat, opaque stones look dull when set and are priced lower.

Evenness and pattern

An even colour across the face, or attractive, well-placed banding, adds value. Blotchy patches, grey areas or dark spots reduce it.

Finish and size

A symmetrical shape, a smooth glassy polish and clean edges with no chips matter. Size counts too, but a large dull stone will usually be worth less than a smaller, brighter one.

Watch for glass

Yellow glass is the usual imitation. It shows round bubbles under magnification and warms quickly in the palm, while agate stays cool. A flawless, perfectly even and very cheap stone deserves a closer look. Ask the seller to write that it is natural agate and whether it has been dyed.

Wear

At 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale yellow agate handles daily ring wear. Clean it with mild soap and water and avoid harsh chemicals, which can affect dyed stones.

Before you pay

Confirm the stone is natural, any treatment is written down and the weight is the cut stone's. We inspect every stone and photograph each one alone, so you can judge its colour and glow from the listing. Browse yellow agate, or compare bloodstone and jade.
