This labradorite is 32 carats with a broad blue flash across much of its face. Before you buy, here is what the stone offers and what to check.

• Weight 32 carats, price Rs. 5,180, which is about Rs. 162 per carat.
• Blue flash covering most of the dome, visible when you tilt it under one light.
• Mohs hardness 6 to 6.5, so it can scratch against quartz dust and sand.
• Check the edge for chips when the parcel arrives, since feldspar can split.
• Hold it by the sides and turn it under a window, because the flash should appear from a range of angles and not only one.
• Reference GSN-LB-14 is what to quote if you message us.

On the Mohs scale labradorite rates 6 to 6.5. That is middle-of-the-road hardness: comfortable in pendants and earrings, and in rings worn with some care. Store it apart from harder stones so it does not pick up scratches, and wipe it with a damp cloth rather than scrubbing.
