Taurus Gemstones: White Sapphire and Opal برج ثور

In short: The classical Taurus stone is diamond (Heera), because Taurus, called Vrishabh in Vedic astrology, is ruled by Venus. We do not sell diamonds, so we suggest the traditionally accepted alternatives, white sapphire and opal, and many buyers also choose white topaz. The Venus stone is traditionally first worn on a Friday morning in silver, white gold or platinum.

Traditional belief vs gemmology: anything on this page about luck, protection, planets, healing or religious tradition describes traditional and cultural beliefs — not proven effects, religious rulings or medical advice. A stone's identity, hardness, treatment and origin are gemmology, which a lab can test; the references at the end of the page cover that side.

Primary stone: diamond, or white sapphire in its place

Diamond is the primary gem of Venus (Shukra) in jyotish. GemStore does not stock diamonds, so we point Taurus buyers to white sapphire (safed Pukhraj), the most common substitute. It is corundum like blue sapphire, hard and bright. Ask on WhatsApp for white sapphire, and browse our wider sapphire range. White topaz is a clear, affordable stone that many people wear for Venus as well.

Secondary stone: opal

Opal is the other Venus stone named in tradition, and the one many Taurus buyers prefer for its play of colour. Venus is traditionally linked with love, marriage, comfort and the arts. We list Ethiopian opal and Australian opal separately.

How the Venus stone is traditionally worn

  • Finger: middle or ring finger.
  • Metal: silver, white gold or platinum.
  • Day: first worn on a Friday morning, the day of Venus.

In most readings the Venus stone is kept apart from yellow sapphire (Pukhraj), while Neelam and Venus stones are often allowed together.

What to check when buying

  • White sapphire, white topaz, glass and synthetic stones can look alike. Ask which one you are buying and whether it is natural.
  • For opal, ask whether it is a solid stone or a doublet or triplet, which are thin slices glued to a backing.
  • Ethiopian opal can absorb water and turn cloudy for a while, so do not soak it.
  • Ask for known treatments to be disclosed. Read how we check every stone.

Budget

White topaz usually suits the Under 5,000 and 5,000 to 20,000 filters; opal and white sapphire vary widely with size and quality, so compare in 5,000 to 20,000 and 20,000 to 50,000.

Care

White sapphire and topaz pick up grease quickly; clean them in warm soapy water. Opal is softer and should be wiped, kept from knocks and stored on its own. See our gemstone care guide and white topaz care.
