White Agate (Safed Aqeeq) Price in Pakistan: What You Pay For

In short: White agate (safed aqeeq) is affordable, and its price depends mostly on how even and glowing the white is, whether there are cracks, and how well it is cut and polished. Size matters less than with precious stones. Bleached, dyed or glass imitations should cost far less than natural stone. GemStore's monthly table shows prices per stone, carat and ratti.

Short answer: white agate (safed aqeeq) is an affordable stone, and most of the difference between a cheap piece and a costly one comes from how even and glowing the white is, whether there are cracks, and how well it is cut and polished. Size matters, but less than with precious stones, because large agate is common. Bleached, dyed or glass imitations should cost far less than natural stone, and the price gap is one of your best warning signs.

The table below comes from GemStore's own white agate listings, refreshed monthly, with the lowest, typical and highest prices per stone, per carat and per ratti. The rest of this page explains why prices differ and how to compare quotes in the bazaar. If you are buying white agate for the first time, the companion guide choosing white agate covers what a good stone looks like; here we concentrate on value.

What white agate is

Agate is banded or patterned chalcedony, a form of quartz made of microscopic crystals, about 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale. White agate ranges from milky, almost porcelain-white stones to translucent, softly glowing ones, sometimes with faint grey or cream bands. In Pakistan it is sold as safed aqeeq and set mainly in silver rings for men, though white agate pendants and tasbih strings are popular too. For aqeeq in all its colours, see the aqeeq collection and aqeeq price in Pakistan.

What sets the price of white agate

1. Evenness and purity of the white

The most valuable white agate is an even, clean white or a soft milky white throughout, without grey patches, brown spots or yellowing. Stones with faint, even banding are also liked. Blotchy or dirty-looking colour lowers the price. Look at the stone in daylight against a white sheet of paper; a good stone still looks white, not grey.

2. Translucency and glow

Hold the stone up to a light. Many buyers prefer a stone that lets some light through and seems to glow from inside, rather than a flat, chalky white. Translucent stones with an even glow generally sit higher in the range. Completely opaque stones are cheaper unless the white is exceptionally pure.

3. Cracks and pits

Agate is tough, but natural cracks, pits and rough patches are common. A crack that reaches the surface is the biggest single reason for a low price, because it can catch dirt, show up after cleaning and grow with a knock. Small natural pits on the back are less important than marks on the dome.

4. Cut and polish

Most white agate is cut as a cabochon: a smooth dome with a flat or slightly domed back. A symmetrical outline, an even dome and a mirror polish add value. A lopsided oval, a flat dome or a hazy finish lowers it. Faceted white agate exists but is rare; its price depends on cutting quality more than size.

5. Size and shape

White agate is commonly cut in sizes from about ten to more than twenty carats for men's rings. The 20.80-carat white agate and the 21.15-carat white agate in our listings are typical ring sizes. Because big rough is easy to find, price per carat does not climb steeply with size, as it does for sapphire. Oval is the most popular shape; rectangular and cushion shapes are also common.

6. Natural or altered colour

Some white agate is bleached to remove brown or grey tints, and some "white aqeeq" is dyed or simply milky glass. Natural, untreated stone is worth more. GemStore discloses known treatments on every listing. More on spotting altered aqeeq is in spotting dyed and glass aqeeq.

7. Origin claims

"Yemeni" white aqeeq is often sold at higher prices on the strength of the name. Some buyers value Yemeni origin for traditional reasons, but it is very hard to prove for an individual agate, and many stones sold as Yemeni come from elsewhere. Judge the stone by its colour, glow and condition, and treat any origin claim as information to check, not as a reason to pay more. Our guide to Yemeni vs Iranian aqeeq explains the differences people look for.

Per carat, per ratti, or per piece?

Agate is often sold per piece in Pakistani bazaars, while precious stones are quoted per carat or per ratti. Some sellers do quote aqeeq per ratti, especially for astrological or ring stones. When they do, remember:

  • The standard gemstone ratti is 0.91 carat (about 0.182 g).
  • The jeweller's sunari ratti is about 0.61 carat, so a "twenty ratti" stone could mean about 18.2 carats or about 12.2 carats.
  • To turn a per-carat price into a per-ratti price, multiply by 0.91.

The carat to ratti converter does the sums. For a fair comparison, turn every quote into a price per carat for stones of similar size, then compare quality.

How to compare two quotes

  1. Same unit. Convert piece prices and per-ratti quotes into per-carat figures for stones of similar size.
  2. Same light. Look at both stones in daylight, not under the warm or blue lights of a shop, which flatter white stones.
  3. Look for cracks. Turn each stone under a phone torch; a crack shows as a bright line.
  4. Ask about treatment. Bleached and dyed stones should be cheaper.
  5. Separate stone and ring. In a finished ring, ask for the stone's price apart from silver weight and making charges; see aqeeq ring price in Pakistan.
  6. Value the returns policy. Inspection on delivery and a 7-day return are worth something.

Budget tiers by filter

You can browse GemStore by budget with our price filters. White agate is an affordable stone, so the lower tiers are the natural place to start.

The tiers describe tendencies. What is in each depends on the listings at the time, and the table above shows the actual spread.

White agate against similar white stones

Knowing the neighbours helps you judge whether a price is fair. Moonstone has a moving blue-white sheen that white agate lacks, and is priced on that sheen. Dur-e-najaf is transparent quartz, clear rather than milky. White chalcedony is close to white agate without banding; see judging chalcedony. Milky glass is the cheapest of all and is often sold as white aqeeq. If two white stones are offered at very different prices, find out which of these you are actually looking at before comparing the numbers. For a broader look at white gems, see white and colourless gemstones.

Keeping its value: care for white agate

White stones show dirt and stains more than dark ones, and a stained white agate looks cheaper than it is. Agate is slightly porous, so oils, hair dye, henna, attar and strong tea can creep into the surface and leave a yellow or grey tint over time. Take the ring off before applying mehndi, hair oil or cream. Clean it with lukewarm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush, then dry it fully. Avoid bleach, which can attack the silver and may change a treated stone.

Store white agate on its own in a soft pouch. It is hard enough to scratch softer stones and can itself be scratched by sapphire or topaz. A white agate that has lost its shine can usually be re-polished by a lapidary, which often brings an old family stone back to near its original look. Our gemstone care guide covers general cleaning, and the stone setting service can help if you want an old stone reset.

Safed aqeeq in tradition

Aqeeq has a long place in Muslim tradition in the subcontinent, and many men wear an aqeeq ring in silver. White aqeeq in particular is associated by many families with calm and purity. These are customs and beliefs; they do not change a stone's market value, and for any religious question it is best to ask a scholar you trust. Our aqeeq for men page describes the silver ring tradition.

Common questions

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly — we answer on WhatsApp during working hours.

What is the price of white agate in Pakistan?

It depends mainly on the evenness and glow of the white, cracks and polish. The table on this page, built from GemStore's own listings and refreshed monthly, shows the lowest, typical and highest prices.

Is Yemeni white aqeeq more expensive?

It is often sold at a higher price because of the name. Origin is very hard to prove for agate, so judge the stone by its colour, glow and condition.

Why is some white agate very cheap?

Very cheap stones are often cracked, chalky, bleached or dyed, or are milky glass. Natural, even, glowing stones cost more.

Is white agate sold per ratti?

Usually per piece, but some sellers quote per ratti. The gem ratti is 0.91 carat, while the sunari ratti is about 0.61 carat, so ask which is meant.

Does size change the price of white agate much?

Less than with precious stones. Large agate is common, so quality matters more than weight.

Can I see white agate prices by budget?

Yes. Use the price filters on our shop, such as under 5,000 rupees, which is where most buyers start for white agate.
